PHNOM PENH / PRAGUE —Thejuventus đấu với crotone Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia held a ceremony on August 30 to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and the National Day of Việt Nam (September 2).
In his speech, Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyễn Huy Tăng highlighted great achievements made by Việt Nam in the past 79 years of struggle for national independence as well as in the cause of national construction, development, and renewal.
Việt Nam is stepping up industrialisation and modernisation, aiming to build a prosperous, strong, democratic, equitable, and civilised nation, achieving upper-middle income status by 2030 and becoming a high-income developed country by 2045, he said.
The ambassador expressed his optimism about Việt Nam-Cambodia robust economic ties, citing that two-way trade reached US$8.6 billion in 2023 and nearly $7 billion in the first eight months of this year. The figure is expected to exceed $10 billion again in 2024, with cooperation in other areas also continuing to flourish.
Tăng believed that the Việt Nam-Cambodia relationship, guided by the motto of “Good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability”, will continue to advance and grow stronger for the benefit of their people, the ASEAN Community, and beyond.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sok Chenda Sophea, for his part, said Cambodia highly evaluates and continues to cherish the partnership built by leaders of both countries, noting that mutual trust and understanding have been further consolidated through state and local visits.
The two countries should not only maintain this momentum but also strive to further solidify it, he said.
On the occasion, President of the Cambodian National Assembly Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet sent congratulatory messages to NA Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and PM Phạm Minh Chính, reaffirming their commitments to cooperate closely with Việt Nam to further foster the fraternal ties for the mutual benefit of both countries, and a shared vision for a peaceful, stable, harmonious, and prosperous ASEAN Community and beyond.
Việt Nam's National Day was also marked in Laos as the Vietnamese Embassy hosted a banquet on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Chargé d'affaires Phan Minh Chiến highlighted the continuous development of the Việt Nam - Laos great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation over the past year.
The diplomat also emphasised the wholehearted support and assistance of the Lao Party, State, and people to Việt Nam's cause of national construction and defence.
Also on August 30, the Vietnamese Consulate General in Pakse in the southern Lao province of Champasak held a ceremony to celebrate Việt Nam's National Day.
Meanwhile, Lao Ambassador to Russia Shiphandone Oybuabuddy, along with officials from the Lao Embassy in Moscow, came to the Vietnamese Embassy in Moscow to offer their congratulations.

The Vietnamese Embassies in the Czech Republic and Brazil on August 29 also held ceremonies to celebrate the 79th anniversary of Việt Nam's National Day (September 2, 1945 – 2024).
The celebration in Prague saw the attendance of approximately 500 guests, including representatives from Czech agencies, business community, diplomatic corps, and Vietnamese expatriates.
Vietnamese Ambassador Dương Hoài Nam delivered an opening speech, highlighting the significance of Vietnamese President Hồ Chí Minh's Declaration of Independence on September 2, 1945. He affirmed that the fundamental values of life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness, as articulated in the declaration, continue to be safeguarded today.
The diplomat lauded the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Việt Nam and the Czech Republic, which are based on mutual respect and common interests.
Expressing his optimism that high-level bilateral exchanges will continue on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations in 2025, Nam also highlighted the valuable contributions of the Vietnamese community in the European nation, noting their role as a crucial bridge between the two countries.
President of the Czech Senate Miloš Vystrčil praised Việt Nam's storied history and the growing bilateral relations despite geographical distance and cultural differences.
Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Eduard Hulicius described the relations between Việt Nam and the Czech Republic as a model of mutual respect among nations. He also commended the Vietnamese community's contributions to Czech society and the expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
In Brasília, more than 250 guests, including officials from various Brazilian ministries and diplomatic corps, attended the ceremony hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy.
In his remarks, Ambassador Bùi Văn Nghị reviewed Việt Nam's foreign achievements, including establishing diplomatic ties with 193 countries, expanding economic relations with 230 countries and territories, and participating in 16 free trade agreements. He highlighted Việt Nam's active and proactive role in multilateral forums, contributing to development goals, human rights protection, and global peace.
The diplomat went on to praise the positive development of the Việt Nam-Brazil relations. Bilateral trade exceeded $7.11 billion last year and neared $4.6 billion in the first seven months of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 19 per cent.
Ambassador Tarragô, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Special Envoy for ASEAN, stressed Việt Nam's inspirational role in the struggle for national independence and the development of countries worldwide.
He acknowledged the strong partnership between the two countries and emphasised that Việt Nam is an important partner of Brazil and has played a key role in expanding the Latin American nation's relations with ASEAN members. — VNS
