ĐẮK LẮK — Four people died after a sleeper coach travelling on the Hồ Chí Minh Highway through Đắk Lắk Central Highlands province hit a rainstorm, causing the vehicle to lose control and overturn.
The accident happened at about 3.37am on Wednesday in Village 9, Ea H’leo District.
Deputy Chairman of the district People's Committee Lê Ngọc Hùng, who was present at the scene to direct the handling of the accident, said that the sleeper bus, with licence plate 50H-308.53, was being driven by Võ Thanh Hùng, 37, from Quảng Phú Town in Đắk Lắk Province.
It was carrying about 18-20 passengers from the province and heading to Gia Lai Province.
The vehicle was travelling when it hit a rain storm and as it navigated a road crossing the surface was reportedly to be slippery, causing the coach to flip over onto the side of the road, killing three people on the spot, while another died at the Chư Sê District Hospital in Gia Lai Province.
The victims included Hồ Ngọc Quốc, 31, from Thắng Lợi Ward, Kon Tum City, Kon Tum Province, Văn Thị Yến Phượng, 30, from Ia Khươl Commune, Chư Pah District, Gia Lai Province, 21 year old Lê Thị Trúc Ly, 21, from Đại An Village, Ia Khươl Commune and three year old Phùng Nguyên Trâm, from Đại An Village.
Many injured victims remain under special care at the hospital.
