HÀ NỘI — The ongoing Typhoon Yagi has forced the cancellation of football matches scheduled for September 7 in Việt Nam.

The Vietnam Football Federation has announced the postponement of the match between Russia and Thailand, originally scheduled for 8pm at Mỹ Đình Stadium in Hà Nội, as part of the LPBank Cup 2024 friendly tournament.

This would have been Russia's second match following their 3-0 victory over hosts Việt Nam on September 5, while Thailand had just arrived in Việt Nam on September 6.

The organising committee met with representatives from both teams on September 7 to assess the situation and decided to cancel the match as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of players, coaches, and staff.

The Russian football team will depart Việt Nam ahead of schedule on a private jet to allow players to rejoin their respective clubs for upcoming league matches.

Despite the cancellation of the Russia-Thailand match, the friendly match between Việt Nam and Thailand on September 10 will proceed as planned.

Other football events affected by Typhoon Yagi include matches from the National U15 Football Championship in Hưng Yên Province.

Due to the ongoing Typhoon Yagi, the first two quarter-final matches between Hoàng Anh Gia Lai and PVF, and Bà Rịa Vũng Tàu and U15 Đà Nẵng, have been postponed from September 7. Both matches will now be played on September 8 at PVF Stadium.

The remaining quarter-final matchups include Sông Lam Nghệ An against Thể Công Viettel, and Đồng Nai against Đông Á Thanh Hóa. VNS
